During the 2005 election campaign, as I stood shivering outside the Interior Savings Centre holding my sign, many Blazers fans told me that they did not want to see beer being served in the stands. The Blazers board of directors put out a survey that, to my knowledge, also garnered overwhelmingly negative response to this idea. The Blazers Booster club is against beer in the stands.
I am also told that, at that fateful meeting of Blazers shareholders, one of the reasons at least one Blazers board member did not recommend selling the team was because he afraid private owners would start selling beer in the stands.
So, I am not really sure why the off ice Blazers leaders would make this decision to have "the suds flow" more freely. Seems like they are risking alienating a lot of people.
Of course, we will see how hard those opposed fight against this decision. It's meant to be a trial test out period until the end of this season. It will be interesting to see if opposition dies down. If I was a betting man, though, I would say the decision will be reversed for the start of the 2007/8 season.
