Another post written a lot later that I would have liked. To the questions from Mayor Quimby and Mike below :
- Jim Harker genuinely believes that we should be asking serious questions about the loss of tax dollars. That was his motivation behind making the comments he made about the Y dream home. Jim has now apologized for bringing the Y into this discussion. The dream home selection process is actually entirely managed by the Kamloops home builders association. I supported the motion to make a request that the home be built within Kamloops city limits, but on reflection, I think we are giving up small dollars for a much bigger community good. Its not the first time Jim and I believe differently - very respectfully.
- As for the Moneysense low ranking of Kamloops in their ranking of best places to live in Canada, these rankings are so subjective. I think Kamloops is an astoundingly great place to live, for many different people. In my views, one of the best ways to maintain and enhance our astounding greatness is to make sure we are an affordable, livable community for all people - no matter their economic status
Arjun,
I truly appreciate your cantor and honesty on issues. Concentrating on small issues like loss of property taxes, which probably won't be lost for long with the way permits are moving versus the long term success of KIB. Kamloops and KIB's future prosperity are inextricably linked.
As for the money sense survey, the positives are a move up the chart and guide posts along the way on areas to improve in order to make Kamloops, the best place to live in Canada.
