At the end of Council's discussion last week on a possibly bylaw regulating legal Medical Marihuana Grow Ops, I was quoted in Kamloops This Week:
“I hope farmers show up and I hope people with personal licences show up,” Singh said, adding he’s looking forward to what is already expected to be a lively hearing.
“It’s going to be like fireworks. It’ll be interesting.”
I received an email by someone very offended by these comments. It reads, in part:
“It’s going to be like fireworks. It’ll be interesting.” from Arjun Singh – he is talking about peoples lives and their quality of life. People that are extremely sick and dying. I am getting very tired of the flippant, cavalier attitude of this city council and I find this comment very inflammatory and offensive.
The person emailing has asked for a public apology. I am offering one.
I can see how this reference to "fireworks" could be seen as offensive and inflammatory. This was not my intent at all. There is a bit of context there that I should have mentioned or I should have not made the comments at all. I feel a great deal of compassion for anyone suffering.
I unreservedly apologize for any offence caused.
