At our last council meeting, your council considered two separate property applications in Valleyview. Both applications sought to divide one larger lot into multiple smaller lots.
In one application, what was proposed was to make one property lot into two lots, the other proposed making one lot into three lots.
In the public input for these applications, we heard from Jim Freathy from the Valleyview Community Association. In a thoughtful presentation, Mr Freathy articulately put forward concerns about the larger lot character of Valleyview. He noted that he has been a resident of Valleyview for over 40 years.
Running a bit contrary to these concerns is a growing push in city planning to densify, to allow smaller lots in established neighbourhoods.
This is one of the broad conversations we are hoping to have through the update of Kamloops' Official Community Plan (aka Kamplan), happening right now.
The Kamplan update website is full of amazing information and input about Kamloops future.( see the left hand column especially) And, today, the report (PDF file) from the first phase of public input was released.
