First off, thank you to Elizabeth for offering all the candidates an opportunity to share a bit about ourselves and our stands on issues. My name is Arjun Singh. I have a pretty diverse background. I’ve worked and/ or volunteered in businesses, in social service agencies, with cultural groups, and for environmental associations. I served on Kamloops City Council from 2005-2008. I currently work as property manager.
I believe in the power of community. I’ve spent much of my life promoting stronger communities. As we move into a new official community planning cycle in Kamloops, I feel it is important that City Council engages as many citizens as possible to work together to create a thoughtful community plan that has broad based community support. I’ve recently obtained a MA in Professional Communication and a Certificate in Dialogue, Deliberation, and Public Engagement. I hope to use my new knowledge to help create an effective process where the community can work together in respect.
I really enjoy working on and learning about youth and family issues. I was honoured to attend a conference called “Cities fit for Children” in 2007. There I studied municipal strategies and plans that have incorporated the needs and desires of children and families. I have a strong desire to serve youth at risk and currently volunteer with Interior Community Services to fundraise for youth programs.
I did not support the Lorne Street parkade location in the hopes that we can get more community support behind another location. I don’t have a position yet on the Ajax Mine, beyond supporting the most stringent regulatory review possible. I support increased facilities for breastfeeding.
